Panmycin

 

Description

A broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from chlortetracycline and used in medicine to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.  It works like most other Bacteriostatic antibiotics by inhibiting the production of protein in invading cells.  Will not work against virus infections.

 

Uses

  • Mild respiratory infections
  • Prevent infection after surgery or injury
  • Mycoplasma
  • Some eye infections
  • Urinary infections

 

Dosage

  • 5 to 10mg/lb orally, three times a day (7)
  • Panmycin - 0.05 to 0.10cc/lb (7)
  • Terramycin soluble powder - 1/2 to 1 tsp./8oz water, fresh daily (7)
  • Tetracycline capsules - 500 mg of powder mixed in 1 litre of water for 14-30 days (7)
  • 2-5 mg/ml in drinking water (20)
  • 10-20 mg/kg orally, two to three times daily (20)
  • 20 mg/kg BID orally (24)
  • 3 mg/ml for 7 days in drinking water (24)

 

Side Effects

  • Loss of appetite
  • Itchiness

 

Warnings

  • Do not supply ANY milk products while on this antibiotic

 

Incompatibilities

Tetracycline may decrease the effect of penicillin based drugs or aminoglycosides.
