Zithromax

Description

A broad-spectrum systemic antibiotic, used in the prevention and treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. It works by preventing protein production in the bacteria, effectively killing it off and allowing the body's immune system to get the infection under control. Good for younger rats, less effective on older rats. Quite expensive and only available via prescription.

Uses

• Sinus bacterial infections
• Throat bacterial infections
• Respiratory tract bacterial infections (such as bronchitis and pneumonia)
• Mycoplasma

Dosage

• 4 mg to 8 mg/lb twice a day for the first 14 days then once a day for an additional 14 days, if needed (7)
• 3.5mg/kg three times a day for 20 days (21)

Side Effects

• Diarrhoea
• Loss of appetite
• Stroke
• Inflammation of the kidneys
