Every year I collect sweet chestnuts from my local woods.I roasted some today and gave one each to the girls as a treat.
They loved them!It was fun watching them peeling the shells and they really seemed to like the baked nut inside.
They're going to be rationed though as I reckon they're well fattening!

Well,a friend suggested I

Well,a friend suggested I boil them for 10 minutes as it makes them more tender but they ended up dry roasted as I forgot about them and the water boiled dry!

If you roast them on a baking tray make a small slit in the skin first or they can explode!Roast in a hot oven for about 10 mins or until skin just beginning to turn darker.
You dont have to prick them if you boil them, just boil in their skins.

Mine love sweet chestnuts

Mine love sweet chestnuts too! At one point it was pretty much all Juniper ate! How long do you roast them for? I used to give them to mine raw but I am sure they would love roasted chestnuts...
